Low temperature in Thailand kill 63 peoples and million people affected

A sudden drop in temperature to as low as 10C yesterday morning has prompted many people to don their cold-weather clothes. According to the Meteorological Department, the unseasonable cold snap will last until next Wednesday after which summer will set in. 

Thai Meteorological Bureau deputy director Song Kernan said: "Bangkok on Thursday morning, the temperature dropped to its lowest point in 30 years, and only 15.6 degrees." He said, this year's cold season is the longest in 10 years, lasted about three months. Health department officials to the affected areas indicate visits and take care of people, especially children, the elderly and people suffering from congenital diseases. 

Thai Health Ministry disclosed in northern and northeastern Thailand, unusual cold winter temperatures have dropped to the number of units has resulted in a total of 63 people were killed.

Health Ministry officials said that most of the deceased died of disease caused by the cold weather, the youngest child of the deceased one month, the oldest 83 years old. Last year, only 25 people died due to weather.

　泰國《曼谷郵報》周四報導，寒流持續影響泰國中部以及東北部地區，疾病部門表示，由去年10月中起，全國27個府錄得63宗死亡個案，最年幼的死者僅一個月大，多達45個府受災，全國超過2500萬人受影響。

曼谷15.6度

　泰國氣象局副總監頌克南說：“曼谷週四早上的氣溫降至30年來最低點，只有15.6度。”他說，今年的冷季是10年來最長，持續約3個月。衛生部門指示官員到受災地區探訪並照顧民眾，特別是小朋友、長者以及患有先天性疾病人士。

　泰國衛生部披露，在泰國北部和東北部，不尋常的冬季寒冷，氣溫都降至單位數，已導致24府共63人喪生。

　衛生部官員說，大多數死者冷天氣引發疾病而死，最年輕死者1個月嬰兒，最老的83歲。去年只有25人因天氣原因死亡。

　來自北部的冷鋒，造成泰國長時間異常寒冷，這也將影響泰國稻米收成。泰國米出口商協會榮譽主席維差說：“新到來的稻米收割，質地較差，太早開花，遇到這冷季氣溫特低，肥料變壞，收割時很多稻穀內空。”
