Allegations don’t measure up, say Petronas operators
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13, 2014:
Petronas Station Operators Association (Pesamp) has denied that its outlets have been cheating their customers by manipulating the kiosk as alleged on social media.
Its president Datuk Abu Samah Bachik told The Rakyat Post that such allegations were just that.
“If they feel that something is not right, please report it to the ministry,” he said, alluding to the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism ministry.
Abu Samah stressed that the measurements used in every outlet had been standardised and reviewed weekly.
The ministry, he added, had also made it compulsory for operators to be transferred on a yearly basis to curb any form of malpractice
However, based on the pictures spread via social media, Abu Samah felt that the differences could be in the decimal points, shown on the screens, of which he said was inconsistent.
“Petronas measures up to two decimal points, I am not sure about the rest. The measurements have never changed.” Pictures of three pumps from different oil companies showing different measurements after filling petrol worth RM20 have made rounds on Facebook.
Based on the pictures, for RM20, a motorist can get 8.696 litres at Petron, 8.695 at Petronas and 8.70 at Shell.
