DAP predicts 10,000-strong crowd at Bersih Kuching

The only issue with the Bersih 4 Kuching rally is the size of the turnout with DAP predicting a crowd of more than 10,000, exceeding the 7,000 projection by the organiser.

Its state chairman, Chong Chieng Jen, said he was optimistic the Kuching rally held at the Song Kheng Hai rugby grounds in Padungan could be a crowd-puller.

The Bandar Kuching MP said from the tremendous support shown in the last few days and “with a little extra effort from everyone”, he expected the crowd to exceed 7,000.

“We will hit the 10,000 target. The organiser's target is 7,000,” he told The Malaysian Insider ahead of the 34-hour rally.
Chong said all the party's elected representatives would stay overnight at the Song Kheng Hai Padang “to show solidarity with the Bersih participants worldwide”.

“This is the time for all to come up to show the disgust that we have against the rampant corruption of the BN government.”

Chong, the DAP elected representatives and their supporters will march to the Song Kheng Hai field, about 1.5km away from Jalan Borneo, in front of the Hilton hotel.

Meanwhile, DAP's Stampin MP Julian Tan, has attacked Parti Rakyat Sarawak president Tan Sri Dr James Masing's over his “ignorance of Bersih’s demand”.

Masing said the Bersih rally was a “Malayan culture”, whose aims and objectives had very little to do with Sarawak or Sabah's interests.

“It is a foreign culture to change the government of the day which has found its roots in Malaya and is now creeping its way to Sarawak and Sabah,” Masing had warned.

He said changing the government through "street mob politics" did not last as it created chaos with heavy costs to lives and properties.

Tan, in his attack, pointed to the alleged gerrymandering in the recent redrawing of the state's electoral boundaries and that Bersih's demand for a clean and fair election had everything to do with Sarawak. – August 28, 2015.
