The "red shirt" rally is for those who love the country and is not confined to Malays only, Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said today.
He also denied that the gathering organised by martial arts group Pesaka on Wednesday was to protect Malay dignity, saying instead it was for people of all races who supported the government.
As such, he expressed confidence that Malaysians of all races would participate.
"If the people love the country, they should participate to show their support for the government, whether they are Chinese, Malay or Indian," he said at a press conference after launching the Razakmas Residency project in Kuala Lumpur today.
At its Supreme Council meeting last week Umno had said it did not condone the controversial rally but had said it will not stop members from taking part.
The rally was given the go-ahead by police this morning, after Kuala Lumpur City Hall had endorsed the use of Padang Merbok in Kuala Lumpur. – September 14, 2015.
