Ahmad Maslan new Umno IT chief
KUALA LUMPUR: Ahmad Maslan is now Umno’s IT chief.
The Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry who on several occasions has been mocked by netizens over statements he has made, will be the “top general” in managing Umno’s presence in cyberspace instead.
Annuar Musa, who is also the Kelantan Football Association president, will now take over the role of Information Chief.
Ahmad and Annuar were among those involved in the restructuring of the party’s supreme council.
Meanwhile, when met at PWTC, Annuar said he was surprised by the appointment and promised to carry out his duty to the best of his abilities.
“However, I would like to meet the Prime Minister and the immediate past Information Chief before I announce any initiatives to the media,” he said.
Ahmad Maslan said that he would give his best in addressing the challenges of his new responsibility.
Apart from these developments, Johari Ghani will now head the party’s economic bureau, which was previously held by former minister Jamaluddin Jarjis, who was killed in a helicopter crash last year.
Tabung Haji chairman and Baling lawmaker Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim meanwhile was appointed the party’s chairman for the membership and registration of new voters bureau.
Penang Umno Laison Committee deputy chief Reezal Merican Naina Merican was named bureau chairman for overseas students, while deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Razali Ibrahim will now head the Private Higher Learning Institution (IPTS) bureau with the hope that both could get more support from overseas and IPTS students, which has not been a strong base for Umno support.
The party’s welfare bureau will be chaired by current National Higher Education Fund Corporation chairman Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
The reshuffle in the party structure was announced by Umno president Najib Razak after chairing the party’s Supreme Council meeting this evening.
