Hit-and-run BMW driver surrenders to police
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23, 2016:
The BMW driver involved in an accident which killed three Hindu devotees this morning has surrendered himself to police. KL Traffic police chief Asistant Commissioner Mohd Nazri Hussein confirmed this when contacted, saying the man surrendered at about 7.20pm, adding that investigations were ongoing.
Earlier, the BMW was found abandoned along the Kesas Highway with the driver missing after the accident which occurred at 8.30am today.
Police investigation revealed that the car was registered to a woman in Penang, and that the woman’s son was said to be the driver.
In the accident along the KL-Seremban Highway near Seri Petaling, three Hindu devotees, part of a group walking from Senawang to Batu Caves were killed after the BMW ploughed into them.
Three others suffered severe injuries and are receiving treatment at the hospital.
At a press conference earlier this afternoon, Kuala Lumpur staff officer for traffic investigation and regulation Deputy Superintendent Markandan Subramaniam said the devotees were walking against traffick along the emergency lane of the highway.
The driver of the BMW was believed to have lost control before hitting the devotees.
