Netizens wonder if Dr M will form new party
Some on Twitter say Mahathir picked “beautiful date” for leaving Umno.
PETALING JAYA: Witty netizens on Twitter were quick to link Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s decision to quit Umno with today’s auspicious date, Feb 29.
User white raven (@AmSheWolf) said the former prime minister picked a nice date to announce his decision to leave the party.
“Four years once, it is a ‘beautiful’ date for him to choose this date leaving (Umno).” (“Dtg 4 tahun sekali. Molek benar Dr Mahathir pilih tarikh keluar.”)
One @thefarhanikhwan said the next leap year would mark the second anniversary of Mahathir leaving Umno.
Meanwhile, roy (@royfizo) wrote: “Leo wins oscar, Mahathir quit umno, what’s next? I begin to like leap day, can we have it every year???.”
Roy was alluding to Leonardo DiCarpio, who picked up his first Oscar in the Best Actor category for his role in “The Revenant”.
Others wondered what was next for the elderly statesman, with Subang DAPSY chief Edry Faizal Yusof wondering if the former was leaving Umno to form a new party.
“Would it be named Semangat 88,” he asked, possibly referring to Semangat 46, a party formed by fellow Umno stalwart Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah following a split in Umno.
Eli (@redrun_) echoed a similar sentiment and wondered if there was going to be a “Gelombang Mahathir” after this, while Faiz (@MuhamadFaiz_) claimed that Umno could not be trusted any more.
User Umat Akhir Zaman (@EhhhFirdaus) claimed BN will lose in the coming general election. “Alhamdulillah” (Thanks be to God)
