Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission confirms The Malaysian Insider has had its access blocked for carrying unverified content.
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today warned news portals against carrying articles whose content had not been verified.
It said doing so would lead to confusion and give rise to unwanted situations.
In a statement issued today, MCMC confirmed that it had restricted access to The Malaysian Insider after the portal released content which was considered an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The restrictions by MCMC were also based on complaints and information received from the public.
FMT’s checks found the URL www.themalaysianinsider.com, via Celcom and U Mobile, as well as the UniFi service, was blocked with the following message: “The website is not available in Malaysia as it violate(s) the national law(s).”
