‘Anwar Opposition’s first choice for PM’
Amanah Working Committee member says there are no other qualified members in PKR for the position, contradicting Zaid Ibrahim’s choice for Azmin Ali to be PM.
SHAH ALAM: Incarcerated Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim remains Pakatan Harapan’s first choice as candidate for Prime Minister, Amanah Working Committee member Saari Sungib said.
“Amanah members still see Anwar as the most qualified candidate to be Prime Minister.
“DAP said the same thing too. In fact, I don’t see any other qualified candidates in PKR other than Anwar,” he told FMT after the Asset Declaration Forum at the Selangor State Assembly.
Former Law Minister Zaid Ibrahim had yesterday suggested Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali as among several fit to be the next prime minister. He said there is a lot of talent in all political parties.
Saari said Zaid’s preference for Azmin was merely an “individual” opinion.
“So far, there is no statement from Pakatan Harapan supporting Azmin as PM. But I’m confident that DAP, Amanah and PKR will still prefer to keep Anwar as the candidate for prime minister.”
However, Pakatan Harapan Secretary Saifuddin Abdullah agreed with Zaid’s suggestion.
He said Azmin had a good track record as a Menteri Besar as he was able to bring about positive change to the rakyat after taking office.
“As a PKR member, we are happy when people from the outside compliment our leadership.
“Azmin has set a good record as Menteri Besar. For example, he was able to bring forward a budget surplus for 2015, “Besides that, he had also provided tax exemptions for low-cost houses and removed fees for morning market and pasar malam traders.”
