Instead of the lament, Najib should initiate full and independent investigations into 1MDB and donations, he says,
PETALING JAYA: Lim Kit Siang has described as “tragic” prime minister Najib Razak’s recent statement urging people not to think he is a crook is tragic.
The DAP supremo said that if Najib was fully conscious of his national responsibility and duty as prime minister, he should take action for a thorough and independent investigation into 1Malaysia Development Bhd and the RM2.6 billion donation.
This would dispel and disprove any notion that the prime minister’s integrity and credibility and that of his government were in any way compromised or undermined, he said.
He said there was a growing global perception that Malaysia under Najib was topping the world in corruption scandals.
Time magazine had cited Malaysia as the second worst example of current global corruption, Malaysia fell four places in Transparency International corruption perception index and was ranked by the Foreign Policy web site at No 3 for the world’s “worst corruption scandals in 2015”.
Lim said the 1MDB and RM2.6 billion scandals had caused political and economic convulsions in Malaysia, to that point that the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission dare not comment on whether their investigation had proved Najib was not involved in corruption.
“What credibility could the MACC command that it would dare to carry out its anti-corruption functions without fear or favour, regardless of whether it is ikan bilis or ikan yu?,” Lim said.
Lim’s remarks were in response to a speech by Najib at a solidarity rally in Kuantan on Saturday at which he had said: “Don’t think I am a crook, don’t think I steal the people’s property, I am the prime minister for the people.”-FMT NEWS-
