MACC confirmed investigation carried out in MBI probe

Anti-corruption officers have reportedly seized several documents from the offices of Selangor’s Menteri Besar Incorporated after allegations surfaced last month about demands for money and women in contract negotiations.

A team from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission visited the MBI office in Shah Alam on Wednesday and interviewed two high-ranking officers.

MACC investigations division director Azam Baki confirmed with Malay Mail Online that the team were carrying out investigations after a report was lodged by PKR Secretary-General Rafizi Ramli.

Asked if Menteri Besar Azmin Ali would be questioned, Azam said: “We do not, at this point, think it is necessary.”

The allegations about money and women arose after a screenshot of Rafizi’s conversation in a text messaging chat group was leaked and made its rounds. PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail ordered that a report be lodged with MACC.

The leaked conversation had resulted in an exchange of words between Rafizi and Azmin.

Earlier this week Rafizi said he had also submitted information to substantiate his claims, after he had received complaints about the state government and a person involved with MACC.

Menteri Besar Incorporated administers the assets and business activities of the Selangor state government, in property development, education, tourism, mining, media, broadcasting, hotels and golf clubs.

Azmin is chairman of MBI’s board.
