Lim Guan Eng dismissed today the emergence of many social
media posts denigrating him after he was charged with corruption, with the
latest being a sketch of him in clown makeup, much like the one of Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The Penang chief minister said the attacks on social media
could not be compared to what the “Barisan Nasional-controlled media” has
subjected him to.
"Those who want to demonise and spread lies, it's up to
them. If they want to resort to these measures, we will not take action but of
course Najib will take action," he told reporters after visiting the
Cathedral of Assumption here today.
He claimed that BN-led media outfits have in the past done
much worse, citing as example the false sexual molestation accusations against
his teenage son several years ago.
"Now, the latest attack by BN is more serious and we
will do all we can to fight it to the end," he said, referring to his
corruption charges.
Recently, a Chinese-language community page on Facebook shared
a caricature of Lim by Fahmi Reza next to one of Lim in clown makeup that was
also attributed to Fahmi.
When contacted, however, Fahmi denied the clown sketch of
Lim was his work.
"I only did a caricature of Lim, I never did a clown
sketch of him, someone must have taken my caricature and drawn out the clown
sketch because I did not do it," he told the Malay Mail Online.
Fahmi was charged over his clown sketch of the prime
minister last month.
