“Combine our energy — New Malaysia” will be the theme for the latest Bersih 5.0 edition campaign, announced Bersih 2.0 chaiperson Maria Chin.
The street rally is scheduled to be held on November 19.
The Bersih 2.0 steering commitee, organisers of the Bersih 5.0 rally, is opening invitation for all political parties including Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia to participate.
Maria Chin said participating groups were free to pursue their own causes so long as they agreed with Bersih 2.0’s demands and do not sabotage these.
“We are very focused in our demand for institutional reforms and if people come on board and support our agenda, that is fine with us.
“Other people may have other agenda, but we are unbiased and principled,” she said.
Bersih is demanding for reforms to become a national agenda, for the parliamentary democracy system to be strengthened, and for the prime minister to step down.
Present at the press conference was Bersih 2.0 Vice-Chairperson for Central Peninsula Jay Jay Denis, activist Hishammuddin Rais, Human Rights Society Chairperson Ambiga Sreenivasan, and TangkapMO1 Spokesperson Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof, among others.
