Bersih stop, Red shirts will stop, says Nur Jazlan
The Red Shirts will stop their protests when Bersih 2.0 does so, says Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamad.
He said Bersih should stop its protests if it no longer has the support of the people.
"If Bersih is not getting any traction among the rakyat, they should stop.
"If they stop, the Red Shirts will stop, and if the Red Shirts stop, then there will be no problem," he said when met after a session in Parliament Monday.
The Pulai MP however was quick to add that Umno is not supporting the activities of Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos.
"We are not sanctioning him. The legal side is more important. If you break the law, you go to jail."
He added that both Jamal and Bersih 2.0 are wrong.
"What they (Bersih 2.0) are doing is wrong. What Jamal is doing is also wrong.
"Police can take tougher action against them (Red Shirts), but we want to settle it amicably because it's political action," he said, adding that police are tolerant of political protests.
The former Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman said public demonstrations do not solve anything.
Bersih has been going on a roadshow since Oct 1 to promote its rally which will take place on Nov 19.
Red Shirts members and supporters have been following Bersih convoys in an attempt to disrupt the efforts of the election watchdog.
