Jamal has crossed the line, says Bersih 2.0

Bersih 2.0 claimed today that Red Shirt members led by an Umno division leader had assaulted a Bersih supporter to the point that they could have killed him.

The polls reform group, which is on a convoy throughout the country, said the Red Shirt “gangsters” had thrown eggs at the Bersih supporter, pulled him off his motorbike, and kicked and punched him, resulting in serious injuries.

“They could have killed him,” Bersih 2.0 said in a statement.

“Jamal Yunos has crossed the line and such actions tantamount to thuggery and it is criminal and violence of the [worst] degree,” it added, referring to the Sungai Besar Umno division chief.

Bersih 2.0 also accused the Red Shirts of “almost” ramming into the cars of Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham in Teluk Intan, as well as of former Bersih 2.0 leader Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan and of Bersih manager Mandeep Singh at the outskirts of Sabak Bernam, Selangor.

“Bersih maintains its stand that we uphold nonviolence and respect peaceful assembly. Bersih did not organise its convoys to collect trophies nor to create violence or riot, but to have a national conversation on our issues,” it said.

Local daily New Sunday Times reported today that the police are identifying and searching for the Red Shirts who allegedly assaulted two Bersih supporters on motorcycles and threw eggs at them in Sabak Bernam.

The NST also said Tawau police arrested a man over suspected links with a group that had damaged three vehicles from Bersih 2.0’s convoy in Sabah.

Bersih 2.0 has previously accused the Red Shirts of thuggery in Teluk Intan and Lumut in Perak during its nationwide convoy, including alleging that they had punched a man and torn their banners.
