Bersih 5 participants clean up after themselves





3.45pm: Bersih 5 participants are seen cleaning the area of rubbish left behind.
“This is ‘bersih’. We eat and drink and clean up after ourselves. We are not a dirty group,” said a Bersih 5 volunteer who only wanted to be known as Amanda.
This is in stark contrast to the filthy condition Padang Merbok was left in after Red Shirts supporters took their leave of it.
Bersih 5 volunteers are also seen directing participants to assemble at KLCC.

3.52pm: PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali shows up at KLCC for the rally. He is seeing mingling with the many Bersih 5 participants who have gathered there.
3.45pm: A Red Shirts supporter is arrested after trying to provoke Bersih 5 participants who were passing by along Jalan Raja Laut.




Police are now trying to calm down a group of Red Shirts supporters who are unhappy that Bersih 5 participants were allowed to walk in their area.
3.31pm: Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua says the reason thousands are gathered for the Bersih 5 rally today, was because they have no other choice but to topple the Barisan Nasional government, and its leader Prime Minister Najib Razak.

“We are not doing it through silat, or keris,” said Pua, poking fun of the Red Shirts’ past silat demonstrations.

3.30pm: Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah has been detained under the Securities Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).
Lawyers for Liberty executive director Eric Paulsen says using Sosma on Maria is “unbelievably shocking.”

3.12pm: Some Red Shirts supporters are staying put in Jalan Raja Laut, behind the Sogo Shopping Centre. They say they will not leave until the Bersih 5 participants leave.

3.00pm: An estimated 4,000 and growing crowd has gathered at KLCC. Traffic is congested as the crowd has occupied two of the three-lane road.
Security personnel and volunteers are managing traffic.
Opposition leader Wan Azizah, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and DAP elder Lim Kit Siang are at the site.
Merah-sampah2.50pm: Red Shirts supporters have begun to leave Padang Merbok, with many having decided to call it a day. They have however left a sea of litter in their wake.

2.40pm: Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos and two others from his group have been given a four-day remand order by the Ampang Magistrate’s Court.
The trio is being remanded in relation to investigations into the clash at the Ampang Point shopping mall last Sunday. The trio will be brought to the Shah Alam detention centre.
They are being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, as well as Section 186 and Section 353 for obstructing a public servant from discharging their duty.

2.30pm: A group of Red Shirts supporters tried to chase away former Formula 1 driver, Alex Yoong, who showed up wearing a yellow T-shirt.
Yoong’s pursuers however gave up the chase after police intervened and calmed them down.
Yoong said he was only there to observe what was happening on the ground.
