Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin is suing Red Shirt leader Jamal Yunos for defamation.
The suit is based on Jamal allegedly claiming that she was behind a bloody nose injury he suffered.
Jamal’s public statement on November 13 had tarnished her reputation as a public figure, said Zuraida in a statement.
“His words alleged the plaintiff (Zuraida) was involved in criminal offences and she had ordered her agents to cause the assault,” she said.
Zuraida reminded she had sent a letter to Jamal, through her lawyers, demanding that he apologise within 48 hours.
“However, he responded with more insults,” she said. “He said he was forced to do so because he has to ‘open her skirt’ (menyelak kain beliau).”
The lawsuit was filed on Thursday at the High Court.
Zuraida, who is also PKR Wanita chief, is seeking general and aggravated damages.
She also wants an injunction to stop Jamal from making any further disparaging comments.
Speaking to reporters after filing the suit, Zuraida said she hopes to “teach him a good lesson”.
“All this while he thinks he can be scot free, throwing accusations at other people,” said Zuraida. “It’s time to pin him down.”
She reminded that Malaysia has laws and no one was above them.
Zuraida also urged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to “do something”.
“With so many police reports (lodged against him), he’s having good time as if the country is lawless,” said Zuraida in expressing disappointment with the IGP.
Zuraida’s lawyer, N. Surendan, said the legal team was eager to see Jamal in court.
“We have many questions to ask him,” he said.
