PETALING JAYA: From today onwards, Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar is to be addressed as “His Majesty” while Johor Sultanah Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah will be addressed as “Her Majesty”.
Previously, the official English form of address for the Johor ruler was “His Royal Highness”.
In a statement, Johor Council of Royal Court president Abdul Rahim Ramli said the change in titles was decreed by Sultan Ibrahim in accordance with the privileges, power and authority vested in him under Article 7(2)(d)(f) and (g) of the Second Part of the Johor State Constitution of 1895.
In conversation, Sultan Ibrahim is to be addressed as “Your Majesty”, “Tuanku” or “Sir”.
Raja Zarith meanwhile will be addressed as “Your Majesty”, “Tuanku” or “Madam”.
The Malay form of address “Duli Yang Maha Mulia” for both Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith remains unchanged.
