The government jet which Datuk Seri Najib Razak had used to fly to the United States landed in Bangkok, Thailand, today at 11.11am, after having been in London, New York, and Dubai.
A check on the flight tracking website Flightradar24.com showed that the aircraft, bearing tail number 9M-NAA, had arrived in Dubai from London at 12.16am this morning, before departing again at 1.53am.
Najib had used the government airplane, an Airbus A319, for his family holiday in Hawaii but cut short his holiday following criticism over his absence when massive floods hit several states in Malaysia.
Many Malaysians had criticised Najib after photographs of him playing golf with US President Barack Obama in Hawaii went viral.
The prime minister, however, did not return to Malaysia on the government jet but had instead flown home on a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) transport plane, fuelling speculation as to where the government jet could have gone to.
As of 1pm, Flightradar24.com did not record further flight paths of the government airplane, which had previously touched down in several states in the US, including Los Angeles and Indianapolis.
On Monday, PKR Youth Information Chief Lee Chean Chung had asked why Najib had not taken the government jet to return to Malaysia, noting that using a RMAF plane incurred additional costs.
“How did the official jet travelled eastwards and ended up in Indianapolis? Who is using the jet?” Lee had asked in a statement.
Yesterday, social media users took to Twitter to enquire about the whereabouts of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, while her husband, the prime minister, toured badly hit flood areas to monitor relief efforts and meet evacuees, who numbered almost a quarter of a million people earlier this week.
Najib had defended his golf game with Obama, calling it “golf diplomacy” which had been practised by Malaysian leaders in the past, including his father, the late Tun Abdul Razak.
He said the invitation by Obama “was difficult to decline” as it was planned based on other schedules.
Astro Awani had reported that Najib had arrived at 1.40pm on December 27 at Kelantan's Sultan Ismail Petra Airport and was immediately briefed by the National Security Council on the flood situation.
FlightRadar24.com had shown that the RMAF's Boeing 737 jetliner had departed from Subang airport at 5.34am on the same day and arrived in Hong Kong at 8.53am.
Two hours later, it left Hong Kong for Kota Baru and touched down at 1.40pm. – January 2, 2015.
