Maria Chin ‘Bring it on! We are ready to face the music’

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31, 2015:
Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah says the electoral reform group was ready for any legal action if in fact it was guilty of committing any offence.

She said this in response to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s National Day speech yesterday where he condemned the demonstration and said legal action would be taken against those who took part in any assemblies that threatened the nation’s security.

“We are ready to face legal action as we have anticipated it earlier on.

“Bring it on. We are ready and numerous lawyers are behind Bersih,” she said at a press conference today.

Commenting on the missing Perlis PKR member Fahri Ibrahim, Chin said they had no information regarding the man’s disappearance.

“But we are more interested in following the explosion that was reported during the peak of last night’s rally,” explained Bersih 2.0 deputy chairperson Thomas Fann.

He added that police had made two arrests and two Bersih participants suffered minor injuries from the explosion.

Fann said that Bersih 2.0 was currently following developments in the case as police carried out their investigations.
