Tourism and Culture Minister says Shafie Apdal must be stupid to think he called the former deputy prime minister a dog.
KUALA LUMPUR: Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Aziz has taken offence at a remark made by sacked Rural and Regional Development Minister Shafie Apdal, and described the latter as “stupid.”
Nazri was referring to remarks he himself made on Tuesday in which he said the persistent criticism of sacked Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin against the government and Prime Minister Najib Razak, was like a dog biting someone’s leg.
“No, he (Shafie) should listen properly. He must be a stupid (Umno) vice-president.
“I didn’t say he’s (Muhyiddin) a dog. Shafie must be a stupid person to think I called another person a dog.
“I was giving an example of how difficult it is.
“I said, when we are doing our job but he keeps biting our leg, we can’t move.
“The first thing that came to my mind was a dog biting our leg,” he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex here today.
Earlier today, Shafie, in a statement, said he was disappointed with the denial syndrome shown by certain quarters who described people speaking up against their leaders as a dog biting someone’s leg.
Nazri, who is also Padang Rengas MP, added that Shafie deserved to be kicked out of the Cabinet for thinking he had said something he most certainly did not.
“No wonder he’s been kicked out. He’s so stupid even to think I called Muhyiddin a dog. He’s really stupid and he deserves to be out of the team (and) Cabinet.
“I think he’s not clever. He’s saying something I didn’t say or mean, and I take offence at what he said. He will have no future in Umno.”
Nazri recently announced that he would push for Muhyiddin’s suspension as deputy president at the Umno Supreme Council meeting scheduled tomorrow if his attacks on Najib continued.
When asked if he would do the same in regard to Shafie, Nazri said he would not as the Semporna MP had the right to speak his mind.
