Dr M rooting for Pakatan Harapan at by-elections, an allies disclosed

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pic) will be campaigning for Pakatan Harapan as he cannot allow the Barisan Nasional coalition led by Datuk Seri Najib Razak to secure a win in the June 18 polls.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be campaigning for Pakatan Harapan in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections on the Citizens’ Declaration platform, an ally of the former prime minister and Umno president said today.

According to former Umno Batu Kawan chief Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hassan, Dr Mahathir would be aliasing with the federal opposition bloc as he cannot allow the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to secure a win in the June 18 polls.

“Tun Mahathir will definitely campaign in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar on his stand that he cannot allow BN to win,” he told reporters when met at the Sungai Besar nomination centre here today.

Khairuddin, who was seated in the Pakatan Harapan tent, however refused to state if Dr Mahathir would be campaigning specifically under the Pakatan Harapan banner.

“Tun Mahathir would be campaigning indirectly under the Citizens’ Declaration banner. He will campaign at Pakatan Harapan events on the Citizens Declaration platform,” he added, referring to the petition by the Save Malaysia movement headed by Dr Mahathir that seeks Najib’s resignation.

“He would be helping Pakatan Harapan on the virtue of saving Malaysia,” said Khairuddin.

Pakatan Harapan is contesting both federal by-elections through Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), a newly formed party comprising moderates who left PAS.

The parliamentary Sungai Besar by-election in Selangor will see a three-way contest between BN’s Budiman Mohd Zohdi, PAS’ Dr Rani Osman and Amanah’s Azhar Shukur.

The federal Kuala Kangsar by-election in Perak will see a four-way fight between BN’s Mastura Mohd Yazid, PAS' Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad, Amanah's Ahmad Termizi Ramli and, independent  Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
