Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos today said he would ignore any advice given by the police when organising a counter-rally against the upcoming Bersih 5 gathering.
Jamal, who is also the Sungai Besar Umno division chief, said last year the group had heeded the advice of the men in blue.
But this time around, they would go ahead with its counter rally if Bersih 2.0 decides to ignore the law.
“Let red and yellow face off.
“Bersih and gang, wait for us and see what happens,” he said, alluding to Bersih 2.0’s trademark colour.
In 2015, the Red Shirts decided to postpone its gathering to counter the Bersih 4 gathering following advice from the police.
On Sept 16, the Red Shirts finally held a rally to “uphold Malay dignity” in response to the earlier huge Chinese participation in Bersih 4.
Jamal told reporters this after lodging a police report against the electoral reform group’s chairman, Maria Chin Abdullah, at the Dang Wangi police station here.
Earlier, Jamal demanded that Chin respect the Peaceful Assembly Act and hold Bersih 5 in stadiums instead of having it wherever Bersih 2.0 chose to.
“I want to warn Maria Chin and gang, respect the law as we are a peaceful nation.
“All of us here can go shopping or the mamak, or wherever we want.
“But with a circus animal like her, the peace in the country will be threatened.
“We condemn her calls to upset parliamentary democracy in the country and bring down Prime Minister Najib Razak.”
He explained that the decision to lodge a police report on behalf of the “Coalition of NGOs” was because he felt Chin was attempting to incite the people to topple Najib via street protests.
