Representing Malaysia at UNGA, Zahid appreciates Najib's trust

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for the trust given to him to represent Malaysia at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Describing it as a recognition and a responsibility for him, the deputy prime minister said representing Najib at the assembly would be an exposure for him to perform on an international stage.

“In my opinion, he (Najib) wants to give some exposure to me to perform on an international stage as certain quarters have been questioning my capability as his deputy because they said I was not getting many exposures at the international level.

“(They probably forgot that) when I was the Defence Minister, I have chaired many international events which were attended by defence ministers of various countries.

“But, Alhamdulillah, with this exposure given by the PM, (I hope it) will answer all the allegations and negative comments made against me,” he said this when interviewed by Sayed Munawar Sayed Mohd Mustar in the ‘Bicara Khas Bersama Timbalan Perdana Menteri’ programme, broadcast on TV1.

Ahmad Zahid also explained that it was not something unusual for him, as the deputy prime minister, to be assigned to lead the country’s delegation as many other countries were also sending a representative of their leaders and governments.

The deputy prime minister arrived in New York on Saturday for the 71st Session of UNGA.
