Eighth police reports made, Bersih wants cops to investigate 'Flying Parang' post

Bersih 2.0 has urged the police to investigate and find the culprit responsible for using Jamal Yunos’ name to release the seditious “flying parang” post.

Bersih 2.0 Chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah said the Facebook account, using Jamal’s name, threatened to disrupt national peace.

“The person had on his Facebook wall promised that the May 13 tragedy will repeat itself and that machetes will fly should Bersih 5 be held on Nov 19.

“The statement has clearly called for war. It does not just affect Bersih, but the country,” she told reporters outside the Petaling Jaya police headquarters today.

Jamal or someone posing as him had allegedly uploaded the seditious Facebook post on Sept 21 at 8.10 pm.

The post read: “I promise that the May 13 tragedy will repeat itself and that machetes will fly should Bersih 5 be held at the same time, date and location as the #Bersih5 assembly scheduled for Nov 19. Long live the Malays!”

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar has said that strong and immediate action will be taken on the owner of the related Facebook account.

Jamal has denied owning the said Facebook account, accusing DAP of having opened a fake account under his name.

Maria said police cannot delay acting against the perpetrator, as they want to avoid race-based politics.

“The police must investigate this. We do not know who it is (the Facebook account owner) and if it is not Jamal, good. But if it is him, the police must act,” Maria said.

Maria also said the police report she made at Petaling Jaya was not the first, and that seven police reports had been made so far against Jamal.

“Seven reports have been made — in Johor Bharu, Kluang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan, Brickfields and Kelantan. This makes the eighth police report we have made.”
