Red Shirts leader Jamal will be call for statement, says Selangor police chief

Police will be calling in Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunus for his statement after several protesters allegedly attacked two men wearing Bersih T-shirts in Sabak Bernam.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said police were in the midst of contacting Jamal, who is Sungai Besar Umno chief, for his statement.

"Yes of course, we will be calling him in for a statement on the incident," he said when contacted here Monday.

He added, however, no more arrests had been made except for the three who were held initially for rioting and later released.

Further arrests, however, were not ruled out.

On Saturday, Red Shirt protesters were seen in a viral video to be pelting eggs at the two men and one of them even being kicked in the back.

But Jamal defended his men's actions.

"I was there and the two men provoked my men by trying to ram their motorcycle at us.

"That is why my men reacted and I defend their actions," he said when contacted Monday.

Jamal added he had full faith that the police would review the incident comprehensively and take the right action.

"I have also instructed my men to cooperate with the police," he said.

Bersih 2.0 is touring the country ahead of the Bersih 5 rally but the Red Shirts have tried to disrupt the group's convoy in several locations.

The Bersih 5 rally is expected to take place on Nov 19.

The Red Shirts have planned a rally at the same time to "counter" the protest.
