The Red Shirt group is now planning to stage a "mega demonstration" in front of the Bar Council for receiving grant from Open Society Foundations (OSF) that is linked to American billionaire George Soros.

In a statement, Red Shirt leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos said the Bar Council's public admission that it received US$15,000 (RM63,151.50) in grants shows that it wants to "overthrow the Government".

"We are planning this mega demonstration against the Bar Council because, apart from being an Opposition tool, what they are doing now does not benefit the people," he said.

Jamal said the Bar Council is now being "remote-controlled" by Soros himself to overthrow a democratically-elected government.

"This is a despicable act by the Bar Council, a clear attempt to run down the Government with the help of Soros, who almost made our country bankrupt," he said.

It was previously reported that the Bar Council admitted receiving the funds as a grant for a study on migrant workers in Malaysia.

Chairman of the Bar Council’s Migrants, Refugees and Immigration Affairs Committee M. Ramachelvam revealed that the grant was received on Jan 7, 2015.

He said the sum was used for research, and not for the Bar’s operating or administrative expenses.
