The Prime Minister is absolutely right in what he is reported to have said at the Festival Rakyat Pasir Salak (Najib explains ‘people power’ as power to vote). But he surely chooses to ignore or not address publicly why people are so angry now.
What if the population that voted a political party into power finds great dissatisfaction with the way the government of the day is doing things? What if they find the answers to their deep seated concerns are not forthcoming or worse, what is being dished out by the prime minister and his coterie raises even more serious concerns?
Must the population shut up and put up with it until the five-year tenure expires to clean up the mess?
Yes bringing down governments of the day outside of general elections brings no immediate relief nor is it a panacea for all the ailments that citizens endure.
The recent rally clearly laid out the demands. All that the caring citizens wanted was that the government gives them a believable and transparently accountable assurance that we will march to the coming polls with checks and measures that will further safeguard their Constitutional rights to a clean and fair government.
Why did they ask for this? As the leader of nation this is the defining question that Najib Razak needs to address. Why are people angry?
The 16th IACC by all comparisons has left even more mud that will take tremendous effort to spade-off. But you keep attacking Malaysians who demand for clarification and believable answers to the way the 1MDB is being managed and the RM2.6 billion that went into your kitty.
Not only are Malaysians confused and puzzled with all the statements that your coterie of loyalists are spewing out but even the global community is just as much questioning till today. Why?
Hence, if the people ask for you to step down, it is not that they want to throw the government of the day. To throw governments illegally, you need to have a violent, arms-and-bombs wielding people running amok. But Bersih 4 was peaceful.
So, pray tell us netizens: if a government is doing wrong and is perceived to be corrupt, and not giving believable answers, what must people do?
Honorable Prime Minister, either you do all that needs to be done, immediately, to win back the admiration and trust of the people or you better step down to save the dignity and honour of our nation. Threatening and taking drastic actions through undemocratic means will not help the nation.
Malaysians have proven that they do not have any agenda to overthrow the government. They only want to a see better nation that keeps improving by the days.
