KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a report of a burnt car found in Hutan Melintang, Perak, as part of their search for prominent government prosecutor Kevin Morais who has been reported missing since Friday.
Morais was seconded from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) but returned to the AGC recently.
Morais was believed to be in the same team together with Jessica Gurmit Kaur in the investigations into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad affair and the RM2.6 billion found in the PM’s private banking accounts.
He was also amongst the AGC officers who were questioned in regard to the leak of the purported charge sheet against the PM.
Kuala Lumpur police said all efforts were being made to find Morais and have engaged their counterparts in other states to assist in the search.
Any abnormalities or incident that occurred around the time of Morais’s disappearance are being checked, city CID chief Zainuddin Ahmad has said.

This includes the burnt car found by Perak police at 10am on Saturday in Hutan Melintang. “We do not know yet if it belonged to the missing man (Morais) because we could not identify the make and the registration number,” Zainuddin was quoted as saying. At the moment, I was told only a frame of a car was found. So far, they did not find any trace of bones or human remains in the vehicle,” he told Malaysian Insider.
Morais left his home at Menara Duta at about 9am, driving a government car, a grey Proton Perdana with registration WA6264Q. A phone call by a friend at 10.30am was unanswered, and so too another attempt to call his phone a few hours later.
Morais’s brother, Richard Morais, lodged a report in Jinjang on Saturday evening.
