KUALA LUMPUR: The Red Shirts rally will go ahead come rain or shine as its participants are bent on sending a clear message to the Chinese of DAP to stop their “kurang ajar” (rude) ways of insulting the Malays.

At a press conference today, Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos also “thanked”
Bersih 4 rally-goers for opening the eyes of the Malays after the great disrespect they showed to the country’s Malay leaders when they brandished insulting slogans and messages.

“We are going down to Bukit Bintang, to send a clear message to the Chinese of DAP to not be ‘kurang ajar’ to the Malay race,” he said.

He also pointed out that 90 per cent of Bersih 4 rally goers were made up of Chinese members of the community while those of other races who participated had been “brainwashed” by the Chinese of DAP.

“The yellow shirts worn by Bersih participants is also an insult to the royal institution,” he said as the colour of royalty was yellow.

He dismissed the attendance of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad on both days of the Bersih 4 rally on August 29 and 30 saying, “Tun M took advantage of the event to show his disapproval of Najib’s leadership.”

The Red Shirts rally, which the deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid said the police would not issue a permit for, is to take place on September 16, which is Malaysia Day.

The Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar, has also proposed that the rally site be shifted to a stadium instead but Jamal, in addressing this development said, “This is a peaceful protest, not a racial riot. It’s about Malay solidarity.

“We will gather in Bukit Bintang, beside Lot 10, then we will march to Padang Merbok. There is no problem for vendors to do business on that day, as it will be a peaceful assembly.

He said that NGO Persatuan Silat Kebangsaan or Pesaka, the rally organisers, had applied for a permit to City Hall, but were still awaiting feedback.

On the issue of public safety, Jamal said that rally goers had been briefed to abide by the law and that if any were to break the law, they would take full responsibility for it themselves.

“This assembly is to show the unity of Malays to protect the constitution and the current law.

“I have informed NGOs that if they break the law, it will be their own responsibility.”

He also said they would go ahead to hold the rally with or without the approval of the police.
“Whether the police allow it or not, it’s up to them.”
