PAS has no intention of joining the new opposition pact which includes Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s new party.
Its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said PAS would not
“sail on a boat that is uncertain and chaotic”.
Abdul Hadi also said that the new coalition would involve
DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara, which had been vocally attacking PAS’ vision, mission
and policies.
“They can form a new opposition pact, but we are not even
sure if it will take off or survive.
“PAS has its own policies and mission. We want no
interference in what we are championing. We don’t want our struggles to be
criticised or sidelined,” said Abdul Hadi after his weekly Friday sermon at the
Rusila Mosque here.
For the time being, he said it was better for PAS to be on
its own and not in any coalition.
“But we will carry on working with parties with which we
share mutual understanding, policies, vision and mission.
“We have no problem working with any party that understands
our struggles, especially when it comes to matters concerning Islam. We don’t
want others to meddle in matters involving the Muslims,” he added.
Abdul Hadi said if others continued to attack PAS, the party
would have no choice but to retaliate, irrespective of whether they were from
Barisan Nasional or the Opposition.
“We have tried working together with other parties before,
but in the end, we turned out to be their punching bags,” he said, adding that
PAS’ agenda was not only to change the government but also the people’s
attitude and mindset.
He said currently, many in the opposition pact were only
concerned with changing the prime minister instead of the people’s mindset.
