Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun accused two former high-ranking government officials and the outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief of conspiring to topple the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) administration by leaking confidential information to foreign powers.
According to news portal Malaysiakini, the politician filed a police report today against former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, former Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz, and Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed who will be stepping down as MACC chief at the end of this month.
“I am urging the police to expedite investigations into the report that I have lodged today,” Khairul was quoted telling reporters after filing his report against the trio at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters here.
Malaysiakini reported Khairul saying in his police report that he suspected the trio had passed on confidential information to several foreign agencies, including the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, without prior authorisation besides manipulating certain documents.
The news portal did not mention which documents were involved. It added that Khairul declined to furnish further information as he would only share the details with the minister in charge, without indicating the identity or position.
Abdul Gani, Abu Kassim and Zeti were last year part of a four-agency special task force that also included the police led by its chief Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, to investigate state investment fund 1 Malaysia Development Berhad for alleged financial misappropriation.
Abdul Gani was replaced as AG by former judge Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali in July last year, while Zeti relinquished the reins at Malaysia’s central bank at the end of April this year to her former deputy Datuk Muhammad Ibrahim.
