PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was thankful that PAS leaders were corruption-free in both Kedah and Terengganu, the states it once ruled, as well as Kelantan, the state it has ruled for over two decades.

Its leaders of those states were never involved in any corruption cases compared with its former ally DAP and Umno, he was reported as saying in Sinar Harian today.

"PAS people have no such cases. Umno had, and now it's DAP," he said, however without naming any leader.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has recently been charged with corruption over the purchase of his house, while former Selangor Menteri Besar Khir Toyo had been convicted of corruption over the purchase of his mansion.

Hadi is attempting introduce a Private Member Bill involving Act 355 regarding the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act in Parliament.

He stressed that four witnesses were needed in a Syariah court in cases related to fornication and sodomy.

"The witnesses should be fair, faithful and intelligent. They should believe in sin and reward especially. They have to be ethical, with dignity and have never committed any crime," he said.

Thus it is very hard to be convicted under Islamic law as the punishments are heavy in nature, he pointed out.
