Red Shirts movement leader Jamal Yunos has 48 hours to apologise and retract his allegations against PKR Wanita or risk legal action, the wing’s chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said.

Yesterday, Zuraida and PKR Wanita members were confronted by Red Shirts supporters near Ampang Point mall when they were promoting the Bersih 5 rally planned on Nov 19.

After ending up with a bloodied nose following a scuffle, Jamal later blamed Zuraida’s supporters for the attack, claiming that one of them had punched him.

“Jamal’s allegations are untrue and defamatory. It embarrasses me, saying that I punched him,” the Ampang lawmaker told reporters in the Dewan Rakyat today.

She also demanded that Jamal pay the cost of damages incurred during the scuffle.

“My lawyers have also sent a fax to his (Jamal) office. I will also make a police report at Ampang IPD tomorrow, followed by other police reports across the country.”

She added it was time for Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar to take action against Jamal as more evidence of threats have been clearly made.

“The IGP has enough evidence to take action.”

On the police report lodged by Jamal, who is Sungai Besar Umno division chief, where he alleged that a man in a yellow T-shirt had punched him, Zuraida said that lodging a false report is a criminal offence.

“I am sure the police will charge Jamal for doing so.

“The evidence is there for all to see – he lodged a false report and was even captured on video telling lies.”

Meanwhile, Zuraida’s PKR colleague, vice-president Shamsul Iskandar, said PKR lawmakers plan to summon the nation’s top cop to Parliament to ask him to take action against Jamal.

“We believe parliamentary rules can help in this, for example Section 18(1) of the Standing Orders.”
