Parliamentarians should not misuse their immunity as it would be an insult to the Dewan Rakyat, minister in charge of parliamentary affairs Datuk Seri Azalina Othman said today.
She warned lawmakers not to take advantage of their immunity in the House to make unnecessary comments which would be seen as an insult to the Parliament and to the Speaker.
"As parliamentarians, they should be responsible for all the statements made and should not misuse the immunity that they have.
"What is more disappointing is the Parliament members who heckle and do not respect the position of the Speaker, which can be counted as insulting the House," she said in a statement today.
The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department also advised fellow ministers to abide by their ministerial oath and not leak any information discussed by the Cabinet.
"Any Parliament members who have been in the Cabinet should hold onto their integrity on the principle that they have made a sworn oath under the Official Secrets Act 1972," Azalina explained.
She also criticised the Opposition for making a fuss over the investigation of former Cabinet ministers Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Husni Hanadzlah, pointing out that they have not yet been deemed guilty and were only under probe.
"The Opposition should not ramble (melatah) when the police investigate any parliamentarians. Their action is based on the police reports they have received.
"Whether the party called up has done a crime or not depends on the investigations of the authorities," Azalina added.
Husni was called up to Bukit Aman yesterday to have his statement recorded for allegedly divulging Cabinet meeting details during his Budget 2017 debate speech, but the police interview was postponed.
Other than Husni, Muhyiddin is also set to be probed for allegedly revealing details about Cabinet meetings during his time as deputy prime minister.
