PUCHONG: Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali has lambasted Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos for pulling off a stunt when he smashed cartons of beer at the entrance of the state secretariat complex in Shah Alam on Thursday.
The PKR deputy president questioned the maturity of such an action, saying it did nothing to improve the lives of the people who were not interested in “gutter politics”.
“While we are focussing on working hard to help the people, there are those who are ‘intoxicated’ with attacking the secretariat office every week by smashing bottles, coming dressed in a towel. What sort of activity is that?” he said.
“The people are are facing hardship. They want homes, jobs, a better economy.
“People do not want a thuggish culture and gutter politics,” he added in his speech at a ceremony to hand over keys to tenants of a smart rental scheme here.
Armed with a sledgehammer, Jamal and his followers carried out the stunt in protest against the Better Beer Festival 2017 which was scheduled to be held at the Publika Shopping Gallery in Kuala Lumpur this month.
The event was cancelled after the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) rejected the organisers’ application to host it following objections by PAS.
Selangor police arrested Jamal and seven others at 1.45am the next day, and placed them under investigation for unlawful assembly under Section 143 of the Penal Code.
On December 21 last year, Jamal had shown up at the same entrance clad in just a towel and carrying toiletries to protest against water supply disruptions in the Klang valley.
Azmin also promised the people of Selangor that he would strive to do his utmost to help improve the state’s economy.
He said Selangor would continue to progress in spite of Jamal’s antics.-FMT NEWS-
