PETALING JAYA: Two foreigners were forced to pay a whopping RM950 for a 10km taxi ride from KL Sentral to Setapak last Saturday.
The incident took place when the two Bangladeshis arrived via bus from Kuala Terengganu.
A taxi driver, in his 30s, offered to take them to their destination at a rate of RM50 per person, a high rate which they grudgingly agreed to pay, reported the New Straits Times yesterday.
Upon arriving at their destination, the taxi driver demanded RM950 instead.
The Bangladeshis argued over the exorbitantly high fare but eventually gave in as they were frightened they would be harmed as the taxi driver had a wooden stick and metal bat in his car.
After paying the fare, the two foreigners lodged a report at the Salak Selatan police station.
A report on the incident was sent to the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) which managed to trace and detain the driver after a special operation in the city yesterday.
The commission seized the taxi to help facilitate investigations under Section 22 and Section 75 of the Land Public Transport Commission(SPAD) Act.-FMT NEWS-
