There’s no need for Nurulhidayah to come to the aid of her father, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, on the issue of 1.5 million workers from Bangladesh.
KUALA LUMPUR: Like other family members, said a political analyst in his latest blog posting, the role of a child is to support a father in politics to face the difficulties in his career. “It’s not the done thing to appear too much while being seen defending the father.”
“No one will accept if the father in politics is projected by his child in public as being the perfect leader.”
Shahbudin Husin the analyst added that it’s better to observe that silence is golden, look after the family and career, and if there’s something left over from what the father gives, use that to enjoy the beauty of the world. “It’s praiseworthy if the Minister’s child is not known to the public as that would help him or her to further a political career with the support of the people.”
“If a child truly loves the father, then it’s wise to carry oneself well, especially in public.”
Shahbudin was commenting on “a recent trend” where the children of politicians appear in public, speaking up in defence of a parent subject to public criticism. “During the Kedah Menteri Besar crisis, both Ahmad Bashah and Mukhriz’ children spoke up in public, defending their fathers.”
“There were a few bouquets but many brickbats. Many people were unhappy.”
After these two kids, came Nurulhidayah who is the daughter of Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. “She came to her father’s defence on the issue of the 1.5 million workers from Bangladesh who will be coming over the next three years.”
“She not only sees the issue as small but agrees with her father that locals are choosy when it comes to jobs.”
The analyst wonders whether the trend, children defending their fathers in politics although they themselves were not involved in the field, was healthy or will be rubbished by the people.
“No matter what the feelings of a child, when the father is attacked left, right, and centre in public, it would be more helpful if he or she just grins and bears it. That would be helpful for the embattled father’s political career.”
The world of politics, if chosen by the father, was for him to handle on his own, ventured the analyst. “He and he alone must face public scrutiny and in an open, and transparent manner.”
The leaders especially in high places, said Shahbudin, have an army of people around them, officers, media advisers, supporters, sycophants, and other people who are willing to work day and night as missiles for a political master they admire and love.
