Najib would be ousted either through internal pressure in Umno as was being done by Mahathir now or come GE14 in 2018 by getting rid of Umno/Barisan Nasional (BN) from Putrajaya.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malays, being Muslims, pray five times a day, fast, perform the minor haj, fulfill the haj if they can, noted a political analyst in his latest blog posting, but appear to be unable to evaluate between good leaders and those who bring nothing but problems. Again, he wonders how it’s possible that a people can pray, fast, go for umrah and haj, and still remain unaware and lack the strength to interpret how dark the image of the nation has become and how bleak its future under a leader who was bogged down by so many personal scandals.

“Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was full of personal scandals and if there are people who still want to keep him, something was not right here.”

Shahbudin Husin the analyst added that getting rid of Najib was not to give victory to former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad or anyone else but for the sake of the grandchildren, the generations to come and the future of the nation. “When Mahathir confirmed that he would not give up hope and would continue with efforts to get Najib out of Putrajaya, it came as great news.”

“This shows that there’s still some hope left to save the nation and bring back the confidence of the international community which has been eroded in the wake of the 1MDB scandal and the RM2.6 billion political donation controversy.”

The analyst conceded that there were fears sometimes that Mahathir would throw in the towel as well, and even worse, if rumours start floating that he too may have fallen victim to temptations like many others who have become targets. “The issue of course doesn’t arise.”

“Mahathir himself has assured that he would soldier on, persevere, until Najib was out of Putrajaya. There’s still hope that we will see light at the end of the tunnel and save the nation.”

The analyst sees Najib being ousted either through internal pressure in Umno as was being done by Mahathir now or come GE14 in 2018 by getting rid of Umno/Barisan Nasional (BN) from Putrajaya.

If the people fail to overthrow Najib, continued the analyst, they should be ashamed of themselves especially considering what has happened in neighbouring Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand where the people were able to resolve a similar crisis situation as in Malaysia. “Marcos, Suharto and several Thai Prime Ministers were bad news just like Najib but the people were able to move together and save their nations.”

“In fact, several nations in the Arab world and Africa were also able to get rid of their errant leaders in recent years.”

Shahbudin cannot recall any time since Merdeka, in 1957, when the nation was as bogged down as now by multiple scandals and crisis involving just one leader who has placed the burden for his mistakes on the people. “The people are left holding the baby.”

“It’s clear that there’s no other way to rescue the situation but ensure that Najib no longer gets to sit on his imperial chair in Putrajaya. As long as Najib is around, things will continue to go from bad to worse, and there would be no end to it, no closure.”
