PAS warned Sungai Besar voters that they would be “sinning”
if they voted for the “wrong” candidate in the by-election on June 18.
The Islamist party's president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang
said during campaigning that voters would be “damned” if the MP they selected
said the wrong things in Parliament.
“We remind voters that it is a responsibility and an
obligation to pick the candidate and leader that will represent them at the
Dewan Rakyat.
“What is said at the Parliament by the person we voted is
our responsibility. If what is spoken (by the MP) is wrong, we would have
sinned and be damned,” he warned over 200 constituents at a ceramah here last
night.
“We have been taught that any leaders that have been chosen
by the people not only have a responsibility to the people, but to God also,”
Hadi added.
Hadi stressed that PAS on the other hand was a religious
party whose principles and administration were based on the Quran.
“PAS is an Islamic party which is guided by the Al-Quran in
the concept of administering a country,” he added.
The Marang MP went on to explain that in Islam, politics is
part of the religion and not a separate entity, which is why PAS leaders are
made to take a sworn oath (bai'ah), to ensure they do not waive from their
religious political principles.
Hadi added that even PAS' Sungai Besar candidate Dr Rani
Osman was made to take the oath, claiming that leaders will face God’s anger if
they betray the party.
“This is why any candidate including Dr Rani is made to take
a sworn oath in order to be loyal to the cause.
“They cannot betray it. If they do betray, they will face
the wrath of Allah (laknat Allah),” he said, adding that that is why PAS
leaders are not corrupt.
The upcoming by-election in Sungai Besar was triggered by
the death of incumbent Datuk Noriah Kasnon in a helicopter crash in Sarawak
last month.
The polls on June 18 would see a three-cornered fight
between Barisan Nasional's (BN) Budiman Mohd Zohdi, PAS' Dr Rani and Parti
Amanah Negara's (Amanah) Azhar Shukur.
