Singer Christina Grimmie who starred on the US version of
The Voice has died after being shot at a concert venue in Florida by a man who
then fatally shot himself, according to NBC News.
“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina
has passed and went home to be with the Lord,” her publicist Heather Weiss said
in a statement, according to NBC. “We ask at this time that you respect the
privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning.”
Orlando Police Department officials told WKMG-TV that
Grimmie was shot on Friday night at The Plaza Live, where she was scheduled to
perform.
They said Grimmie's brother tackled the shooter, who then
shot himself, and that the suspect had two guns.
No further information was immediately available, and an
investigation is continuing.
Grimmie, a 22-year-old New Jersey native, finished third
during season six of NBC's The Voice.
