There has been interference in investigations conducted by
the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), admits a top official from the
anti-graft body, but this had never deterred them from continuing their probes.
"Of course, there has been interference... But I will
not allow (the) interference to stop our investigation.
"Never happened in my history since I take charge of
operations that an (investigation) paper is stopped in the middle of
investigations," MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Mohd Shukri
Abdull said in an official video uploaded by the anti-graft body on YouTube.
While he never explained in the video uploaded on June 6
what kind of interference MACC had to contend with, Shukri continued that under
his watch the commission never stopped investigating because of interference or
orders from anyone.
"For your attention from the beginning until now,
nobody can interfere with our investigation, nobody can instruct the MACC to do
this, do this, do this... no. Investigation is our power.
"I will not allow anybody to interfere, I won't allow
my officers to stop investigation, once investigated we must complete each
investigation paper," he added.
Though Shukri conceded that while the anti-graft body can
plow ahead with investigations regardless of interference or instructions,
there is nothing he can do when it comes to whether or not the cases they
investigated ever see the light of day in the courts.
"I never question the decision to charge or not to
charge. This is not my power, you must understand that there is a separation of
power between investigation and prosecution," he said in the one minute
and 39-second footage.
