Umno has sacked former deputy prime minister Tan Sri
Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah mentri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
Party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the
unanimous decision, by the supreme council here on Friday, was taken as the duo
had shared the same stage with the Opposition.
He added that Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal's membership had been suspended
until the Umno disciplinary board gets a report over the matter.
Muhyiddin and Shafie, who is Semporna MP, were dropped from
Cabinet in July, 2015.
In February this year, Muhyiddin, who is Pagoh MP, was
suspended as Umno deputy president. Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi assumed
duties as acting deputy president.
In the same month, Mukhriz announced his resignation as
Kedah mentri besar. The Ayer Hitam assemblyman said he made the decision as he
had lost the majority support of the state assembly.
