Police will investigate the incidence of billboards and
banners with provocative content put up in the Sungai Besar parliamentary
constituency, said Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar.
Action will be taken against those responsible, he told
reporters after opening the 81st annual general meeting of Koperasi Polis
Diraja Malaysia Berhad here.
He also said police would ask the Election Commission
monitoring team to look into the matter.
The billboards were put up yesterday, and a news portal had
reported quoting Selangor DAP Chairman Tony Pua as having admitted that the
party had put up the billboards.
They have since been removed by Election Commission workers.
On another matter, Khalid said an investigation was ongoing
into the death of Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi, son-in-law of Deputy Prime
Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Syed Alman Zain, 44, the husband of Zahid’s eldest daughter,
Nurulhidayah, 37, lost consciousness while under treatment at a dental clinic
in Bangsar on June 1 and was rushed to the University Malaya Medical Centre
where he was pronounced dead.
Khalid said police were awaiting a complete report from
specialists.
