The Penang chief minister announces that, the Penang government will help to build a RM15 million Islamic
primary and secondary school in Teluk Kumbar by 2018.
The chief minister said the four-block,
four-storey, 56-classroom buildings will be undertaken by Ideal Property Group,
and would benefit some 1,000 students of the existing Penang Al-Itqan Education
Centre.
“The school has been around since 1998 and they were short
of funds. Once complete, it will be beneficial to Muslims in the general Bayan
Lepas area,” Lim said in a press conference here today.
When appreciating the Penang Government for their help, the
chairman of the Al-Itqan Education Centre’s board of directors, Assoc Prof Dr
Abdul Halim Abdul Aziz also said, “We would like to thank Allah for a chance to
begin on a new journey to build this school replete with proper facilities,” he
said.
Also present were Ideal Property Group chairman Alex Ooi and
state Religious Affairs Committee Chairman Abdul Malik Abul Kassim.
The Al-Itqan primary school is presently operating at rented
village houses at the corner of Jalan Kg Masjid and Jalan Kg Sepakat, Teluk
Kumbar.
It has 250 students and 35 teachers and support staff.
A secondary school wing is located some 300m away, with
two-storey building and three temporary cabins catering to 70 students and 16
teachers and support staff.
A tahfiz (Quran reading) school was also set up by the
school in modified container boxes, which has 16 students and three teachers.
