KUALA LUMPUR: Anina Saaduddin, the Wanita Umno member who said Najib Razak has “urinated on the party” has denied an allegation by an Umno divisional leader that she had been paid to attack the party president.
Anina’s speech at the Langkawi Umno delegates meeting last week was the highlight of a celebrated video recording that made the rounds. She repeatedly said Najib had “urinated” on the party, making reference to reports about a deposit of US$700 million in private banking accounts in his name.
On Thursday, Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Yunos alleged in an FMT interview that Anina had been paid off by a party leader.
In an interview with Malaysiakini today, Anina rejected the allegations. “If I was paid, I would be living the high life now. I could take the plane wherever I go, stay in five star hotels and spend my time swimming,” she said. By contrast, she said she took the bus and the ferry when returning to Langkawi.
In the wake of her speech, party secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor has given a warning of action against delegates whose speeches breached party ethics.
However Anina did not believe there would be any action. “Actually, the party president’s wrongs are far greater than mine,” she said.
She said she had been an Umno member for 20 years and was only conveying the voice of the grassroot members.
Her remark was similar to that of Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin who has urged Umno members to speak up and use their divisional congress to voice the people’s concerns.
