Thousands of people have gathered in Kuala Lumpur today for the Bersih 4 rally because they want to ensure a clean Malaysia for their children, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
Addressing part of the thousands from a makeshift stage along Jalan Tun Perak, Lim also poked fun at Datuk Seri Najib Razak, saying that the embattled prime minister's scandals caused the value of the ringgit to deteriorate.
"The 1MDB scandal has caused our ringgit to fall. The Singapore dollar is up and so is the US dollar. We can't go to the US now, we can't go to Singapore. Where can we go?" he said, as the crowds cheered him on.
Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, garnered a huge applause and cheers from those gathered near the makeshift stage as he took the microphone to address the crowd.
Referring to Najib, he said that those in Putrajaya would not be able to sleep tonight, because of the huge turnout at the rally.
"But it is not enough. We want the donation back," he said to more cheers.
Lim was referring to the RM2.6 billion that was transferred to Najib's personal accounts.
Following huge outcry, Najib said the money was donated by a Saudi Arabian donor as an appreciation for Malaysia's efforts in fighting militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. – August 29, 2015.
