KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30, 2015:
The anti-Bersih red t-shirt group has branded the Bersih 4 gathering as “stupid” and said that it will respond with the participation of a million people in their own gathering this October.
The group, consisting of a coalition of Malay non-government organisations led by Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Jamal Md Yunos, said that unlike Bersih 4, which was a “waste of people’s time” and had “no point whatsoever”, their gathering will serve its goal of showing the nation that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak still has the majority of public support.
“At the end of the day, even after camping in the city for 34 hours, Datuk Seri Najib will still remain as the Prime Minister.
“We on the other hand will achieve our objective, so it will not be a waste of anyone’s time if they come and join us.
“If the Opposition can get their people to join Bersih 4, then we see nothing wrong in getting all the Umno people and supporters to join our gathering planned for this Oct 10 in Bukit Bunting,” said Jamal.
He expressed confidence in obtaining a green light from the authorities as, according to Jamal, although Bersih 4 was declared illegal, it still managed to go on without police interference.
“We have been very obedient and have followed instructions by police who asked for us not to participate in Bersih 4. So we believe they will be very cooperative with us.”
The Anti-Bersih group had made headlines and became a viral sensation recently due to a video depicting several of their men beating each other up as part of their self-defence training should any violence take place during Bersih 4 gathering this weekend.
