6.35pm: Jalan Raja - Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah successfully diffuses tension near the northern part of Dataran Merdeka after hundreds of protesters threaten to storm into Dataran Merdeka.
Bersih security personnel were struggling to keep them out until Maria Chin intervenes.
Pekan rallyers want Najib out
6.35pm: Dataran Merdeka - While protest leaders have asked rally goers to take a break, a protester from Pekan, Pahang, who only wants to be known as Alimin, is geared to stay for the night.
"The issue for Bersih this time is different from before. Last time it was about elections, this time it is about changing the prime minister.
"That is why I am here," he says.
The protest which officially started at 2pm today is to run for 34 hours until tomorrow midnight to herald in Merdeka Day on August 31.
Meanwhile, Aisyah Borhan, who just only hit 18, says her participation in Bersih 4 with her cousin is to express her dissatisfaction with the prime minister.
"I hope the rakyat will open their eyes about the need to change the leadership," she says.
Pranksters cause stir
6.10pm: Dataran Mederka - A small exploxion is heard in front of Textile Musem, rattling the police personnel stationed there.
One police personnel told Malaysiakini that the explosion could be the result of firecrackers thrown from Jalan Kinabalu.
Dr M now wants 'people power'
6.05pm: Pasir Gudang - Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who himself had faced popular protest in the 90s while in power, now calls for the rakyat to show "people power".
4.18pm: Dataran Merdeka - Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah tells lawmakers to file a motion of no confidence once parliament reconvenes in October. Her predecessor Ambiga Sreenevasan echoes her adding: "You are sending a loud message to the government that they can't ignore."
She also says this is the biggest Bersih rally ever.
After her speech, Jingga13 chief Fariz Musa calls on the crowd to sit and make way for the medical team.
"Please sit. Someone has had a heart attack. Please sit down so that the person can get out of this place," he says.
Crackdown unlikely, says Anthony Loke
4.15pm: Dataran Merdeka - Speaking toMalaysiakini, DAP parliamentary whip Anthony Loke is confident that the Bersih participants will be able to occupy downtown KL overnight with little problem from the authorities.
"I don't think there will be a crackdown.
"It's too risky for the FRU and police to do anything; it would cause a stampede," he says.
Rally participants have filled the streets all the way from Dataran Merdeka through to Jalan Tun Perak.
From ground observations, the authorities have thus far not intervened in the rally.
Crowd estimate: 100,000
4.10pm: Dataran Merdeka - Based on ground and aerial observation, the estimate for number of Bersih 4 protesters stands at 100,000 amidst reports that some are already leaving the venue.
4.00pm: Central Market - The Brickfields crowd, which has swelled to about 2,000, arrives at Central Market.
The appearance of former Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan gets the crowd excited and they mob her to take photos and selfies.
Crowd estimate: 80,000 and rising
3.30pm: Dataran Merdeka - There is no stopping the flow of yellow-clad protesters who are flooding the Dataran Merdeka vicinity. Crowd size is now estimated at 80,000.
Ahmad Awang: Let this be last Bersih
3.10pm: Dataran Merdeka - Former PAS vice-president Ahmad Awang and PAS presidential candidate for the last party election is taking the stage set on a four wheel drive.
He tells the crowd that it is time the people reclaim their rights.
This starts with the Bersih rally, he says.
"Putrajaya will become the people's right, that is to be free and independent," he says to roaring applause from the crowd.
Accompanied by PAS' security personnel Unit Ariff, he tells the crowd he came via the National Mosque earlier travelling by the LRT.
"We gather here not because of the RM2.6 billion ringgit (deposited into Najib's personal accounts).
"We gather here because of thousands of billions that have been sucked away by the bloodsuckers," he says, to the applause of the crowd.
While Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) will be launching a new Islamic party soon, he adds, Malaysians must ensure that the coming 14th GE is clean and fair.
"I hope this is the last Bersih before we change the government," he says.
3.10pm: Dataran Merdeka - Gerakan Harapan Baru advisor Ahmad Awang addresses the crowd from a four-wheel drive.
Accompanied by PAS security personnel Unit Ariff, Ahmad Awang says he arrived at the National Mosque earlier via LRT.
"We gather here not because of the RM2.6 billion. We gather here because of thousands of billions has been sucked away by the blood sucker," he says to a resounding applause.
"I hope this is the last Bersih before we change the government," he adds.
He also tells the crowd that it is time for the people to take back their rights.

2.40pm: Masjid Negara - Outside the mosque, former PAS deputy president and GHB chairperson Mohamad Sabu gives a rousing speech.
Dismissing claims by some that it is a largely Chinese-dominated rally, Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu asks who here are Malay, Chinese or Indian to which he receives a resounding "yes".
"This means it is a Malaysian gathering today," he says.
'Don't storm barricades'
2.35pm: Jalan Parliament, Dataran Merdeka - At the destination of the march, Bersih secretariat member Shukri Razab asks protestors to sit down.
A wave of protestors in yellow obey the instruction, sitting down to listen to the speeches and poems.
"Ladies and gentlemen who gather in front of the barricades, please do not storm in as Bersih has made the promise (not to do so).
"And the police will also take care of our safety," he told the protestors through the public address (PA) system set up on a four wheel drive.
The intersection between Jalan Parliament and Jalan Raja is packed with approximately 2,000 protestors.
About 100 police are still standing behind the barricades, and the protestors are generally well-disciplined and no stand-offs or conflicts are observed so far.
Over 30k turn up, Central Market kicks off march
2pm: Malaysiakini estimates over 30,000 have gathered thus far at the rally vicinity.
The rally is about to start and certain gathering points like the 10,000 at Central Market begin to march.

1.50pm: Over 20,000 are estimated to be in the city gearing up for the rally at 1pm, according to Malaysiakini's observations.
1.50pm: Suzhou, China - There were about 50 Malaysians gathered at Suzhou, China to mark Bersih 4. Most of them are wearing yellow T-shirts and holding Malaysian flags.

Over 20,000 are estimated to be in the city gearing up for the rally at 1pm, according toMalaysiakini's observations.
1.30pm: Petaling Jaya - Bersih's "urgent arrest contact number" appear to have been spoofed and is being used to send anti-Bersih messages.
One message reads: "Bersih adalah konspirasi DAP semata-mata nak jatuhkan orang-orang Melayu (Bersih is a DAP conspiracy solely to bring down the Malays)".
1.25pm: Jalan Tun Perak towards Dataran Merdeka - While most of the protestors are chanting "Bersih", some are using the opportunity to show support for Johor Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar by holding a banner depicting the ruler and chants of "Daulat Tuanku"

Nearby is a group of poeple with the banner "Made in Muar". Many in this group are seen holding the Johor flag and national flag.
There are two rows of barricades and about 100 police personnel keeping watch.
12.50pm: About 2,000 people have gathered in front of the Sogo Shopping Mall and about the same number at Menara Maybank.
The crowd at Masjib Jamek that has gathered near the LRT station meanwhile has swelled to approximately 1,500.
12.45pm: The Malaysian Insider reports that a petition to collect one million signatures for the release of former Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim from prison, has started circulating among rally goers in front of the Sogo Shopping Mall.
Nandos adds to the spice of the rally by distributing free drinks to Bersih 4 rally goers.
According to Malaysiakini, some of those present at the rally were seen holding creative cardboard banners saying “I ‘hv NO MONEY TO PRINT A BANNER. PLEASE DONATE RM2.6 BILLION TO ME!!”
Another says, “People will eat grass if Najib does not resign” while another was spotted carrying a canvas bag with the words, “My prime minister embarrasses me”.
12.40pm: Some rally goers making the most of their time downtown to buy lottery tickets for the weekend at Jalan Masjid Jamek.
12.35pm: FMT reporters say the mood is generally of a festive nature.
12.30pm: Bersih’s Mandeep Singh and student activist Adam Adli are seen leading a big crowd towards Central Market, obstructing traffic.
FMT reporter Arfa Yunus says some rally goers are carrying sunflowers to signify the colour of Bersih 4. She herself received one. Another reporter Yusoff Mohamed received a bottle of mineral water from a good-hearted rally goer.
PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli is seen looking jovial and posing with a crowd of rally goers as they gesture showing the number 4 to reflect the Bersih 4 rally.
12.20pm: Over 300 Bersih rally goers at Menara Maybank have begun to march towards Dataran Merdeka although their group leader Selangor MB Azmin Ali has yet to make an appearance. The others are seen still standing along the roadside of Jalan Pudu.
Meanwhile police trucks have begun to arrive at Central Market where crowds have reached almost 1,000 in number.
12.15pm: Police trucks and buses begin to arrive at Menara Maybank. Police officers start to control traffic. The crowd has now swelled to close to 1,500.
12.00pm: Crowds at Menara Maybank numbering in the region of 1,200 await the arrival of Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali. Rally goers are waving the Jalur Gemilang as traffic shows significant signs of slowing down.
Over at Central Market, crowds of between 600-700 people begin to gather.
11.51am: Malaysian Insider reports from Kota Kinabalu that rally goers have been spotted erecting tents for their overnight camp out at the Teluk Likas public park 2.
11.45am: About 1,000 people have gathered in front of Central Market clamouring for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak and calling for the release of jailed former Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
FMT reporter Arfa Yunus says it’s like Hari Raya celebrations down at Dataran Merdeka.
Individuals without any affiliation to political parties or organisations are handing out drinking water to rally goers free of charge.

11.30am: Crowds building up at the location of Central Market, Petaling Street, Masjid Negara, Sogo and Brickfields. People have also gathered at Menara Maybank where Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali will lead the rally.
Rally goers are seen waving the Malaysian flag and blaring the vuvuzela. Cars passing keep honking, showing their support for Bersih 4.
