Freak weather wreaked havoc in the Klang Valley this evening, causing damage to buidings and traffic gridlock on major highways.

Several Twitter users reported a hail storm in Bukit Jalil and Sungai Besi areas as chunks of ice pummelled buildings.

At least one petrol station and an office building saw its roof collapsing.

As of 7pm, flash floods caused a snarl around Batu Muda Tambahan towards Sentul, and along Jalan Hikmat Usaha near Masjid Wilayah, according to StarTraffic. 

Reports also indicate that only one lane was accessible to vehicles along these roads.  




KL City Hall (DBKL) traffic report on Twitter also listed at least six locations where trees have fallen due to strong winds.

They are along Jalan Kinabalu to Jalan Maharajalela, the exit at Jalan Tun Razak, along Bukit Jalil Highway near Technology Park Malaysia, Alam Damai, Desa Tasik, Bukit Damansara and Sri Permaisuri.

It also reported traffic gridlock in most parts of Kuala Lumpur, including KL City Centre, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Cheras, KL-Seremban Highway, Federal Highway and the Middle Ring Road 2.

MRR2 near Sungai Besi and Gombak were also reported to be partially submerged.

Flash floods were also reported in Putrjaya, Shah Alam, Serdang and several other locations in the Klang Valley.

According to Google Map, driving from KLCC to Technology Park in Bukit Jalil via Smart Tunnel and KL-Seremban Highway would take 3.5 times longer than usual.


The journey without traffic would only take 18 minutes but under traffic conditions at 8pm, it would take 64 minutes.
